ZILLAH — The revived Zillah Lakes project, which includes a nine-hole golf course, will be on display Saturday and Sunday as Pat Strosahl of United Builders of Washington -- the developer and co-owner -- is staging a weekend-long public celebration.
The kickoff ceremony, scheduled for noon Saturday, will including a look at the new Sheriff Substation at the Zillah Lakes Town Center and a ground-breaking ceremony for the golf course near Interstate 82. There's been enough construction for five holes to be playable in 2011.
There will also be events associated with the new TownCenter mini-park (tennis, shuffleboard courts, picnic areas and the announcement of plans to extend the Zillah Lakes nature trail.
Planned activities include: golf cart tours of the project and nature trail, tours of five model homes , a kids fishing derby in the man-made lakes, and wine tasting and live music for “Zillah Lakes Lakeside After Hours” on Saturday.
Never miss a local story.
Barbecue ribs, beans and beverages will be served throughout both days.
Prices for homes in the community start under $200,000 — $180,000 for some townhomes — but Strosahl predicts prices will increase with construction of the golf course.
United Builders of Washington has built more than 5,000 single family homes and 2,500 units of multi-family dwellings in the Yakima area since its founding in 1949.
