Shari's Restaurants won two blue ribbons by taking first place in two categories at the 2010 National Pie Championships held in Orlando, Fla., last week.
Shari's won first place for its montana sweet cherry pie and received another first place award for its own creation: s'mores galore.
"Shari's has a history of making the best pies in the Northwest", said Kevin Bechtel, senior vice president of menu development. "And our guests have recognized the quality of our homemade-quality pies. We always knew that our pies could compete with the best in the country. But this validates that we can compete and win".
This was Shari's first entry into the national competition. "We're elated that our first entry into this National Competition was a winning effort", Bechtel said. "We knew that our commitment to using only the finest Northwest ingredients made our pies competitive with any pies in the country."
Shari's is the largest full-service restaurant chain based in the Pacific Northwest.
Founded in 1978 and operated by Shari's Management Corp. of Beaverton, Ore., Shari's Restaurants employ nearly 4,500 people in 104 locations throughout Oregon, Washington, California, Idaho, Nebraska and Wyoming.
