MURRAY, Utah. — The Kennewick 13-year-olds lost their opener Sunday in the Babe Ruth World Series, falling 10-1 to Southeast Region champion Tallahassee, Fla., at Ken Price Ball Park.
“That’s a quality club, the best club we’ve seen all summer,” Kennewick coach Lenny Ayres said.
Hayden Burris scored on Conner Morfin’s hit in the bottom of the fourth for Kennewick’s only run, pulling the Pacific Northwest champs within 5-1.
“We had some mental lapses that contributed to some of their success. We missed some cutoffs, we were out of position a few times and they capitalized on it,” Ayres said.
Never miss a local story.
Clayten Ayres started on the mound for Kennewick and struck out two. He was relieved in the fourth by Trystan Drury, who struck out three.
Kennewick will play Williamsport, Pa., at 7 p.m. today.
