A procession for Marine Sgt. Dietrich Schmieman, who died July 10 in a plane crash, is giving Tri-Citians a chance to honor their native son.
The procession began in Pasco at Bergstrom Aircraft at the Tri-Cities Airport and finish at Einan’s at Sunset in Richland. A detour along George Washington Way gave Schmieman a last tour of his hometown. It was his parents’ idea.
Never miss a local story.
Local fire departments ensured he receives proper honors along the way. The Pasco Fire Department will drape a U.S. flag over Interstate 182 for the passing procession.
Einan’s expects the procession to arrive at the cemetery about 7 to 7:30 p.m. People are asked to arrive at the cemetery before 6 p.m.
Parking will be at Einan’s event center at the cemetery. Volunteers will be available to help guide parking.
Schmieman, a Hanford High graduate who achieved his dream of joining the Special Operations Command, died July 10 with 14 other Marine and a Navy sailor when their KC-130 cargo plane crashed in a Mississippi soybean field en route to Yuma, Ariz.
