A Yakima woman and seven teenage girls were injured Saturday when the tire on their van blew out, causing it to roll on Interstate 82 near Milepost 97, about a mile from Benton City.
The Washington State Patrol said Marissa D. Connolly, 30, of Yakima, was driving a 2007 Dodge Ram westbound when the tire blew out shortly after 5 p.m. She lost control of the van, which rolled until it came to rest on the shoulder.
The wreck is under investigation. Drugs and alcohol were not a factor. The driver was wearing a seat belt, but none of the passengers were, the state patrol said.
Connolly and the teens were taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland. A spokeswoman said all were treated and released.
In addition to Connolly, the wreck injured seven teens: Callie J. Kehoe, 18, of Zillah; Andrea V. Miranda, 17, of Granger; Elise C. Moneymaker, 17, of Zillah; Zoe Etheridge, 17, of Zillah; Taryn B. Vanantwerp, 16, of Zillah; Jorrian A. Southards, 17, of Zillah; and Yesenia Sanchez, 17, of Zillah.
