Tri-Cities Research District gets grant

By the Herald staff

OLYMPIA -- The Tri-Cities Research District will get $250,000 from the state Department of Commerce's Innovation Partnership Zone grants, a news release from the department announced Tuesday.

The money will help to support the extension of broadband infrastructure through the district, designated an innovation partnership zone in 2007.

It will help support small- and medium-sized businesses and make the district a more attractive location for technology companies.

The IPZ program is an economic development model that encourages collaboration to advance innovation.

Other grant recipients include Bothell Biomedical Device IPZ and Walla Walla IPZ, which got $500,000 each, and Aerospace Convergence Zone in Snohomish County, which got $250,000.
