Flags at half-staff for fallen soldiers

By the Herald staff

Flags are being flown at half-staff two days this week in honor of two soldiers killed last week in Afghanistan.

Gov. Chris Gregoire ordered the flags at all state agency buildings be lowered in memory of U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer Niall D. Lyons of Spokane and U.S. Army Private First Class Christopher Walz of Vancouver.

The flags were lowered Wednesday for Lyons. He was killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan.

And Walz, who died when his military vehicle hit an improvised explosive device, is being honored today.
