Pendleton police investigating nonprofit

PENDLETON -- A nonprofit organization that hopes to build a homeless assistance complex in Pendleton has sent out at least $30,000 in bad checks, and police are investigating whether it's fraud or an honest mistake.
Pendleton Police Lt. Mark Swanson told the East Oregonian newspaper that Havcorp Industries has sent at least eight checks that bounced.
The company says all the checks were written with the understanding they would clear, and any problem was unintentional.
Company CEO Dustin Havens pleaded guilty earlier this year to theft in a case unrelated to the Havcorp investigation. He recently was arrested for violating his probation stemming from that conviction.
Swanson says the Havcorp investigation could conclude by early November.
