Ben Franklin Transit will hold public hearings today on its latest proposals to cut routes, reduce services and charge a fee on its taxi feeder service in the face of declining revenues.
The three public hearings are set for 9 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Three Rivers Transit Center, 7109 W. Okanogan Place, Kennewick.
Proposed cuts include eliminating the Sunday service, which is provided by a local taxi company, and ending all weekday bus service at 6 p.m., about a half-hour earlier than usual.
The transit agency also proposes to charge a fee of $1 to $3 on its taxi feeder service, which helps people get to the nearest transit station.
Also on the chopping block are the Saturday on-demand service to Prosser and Route 52, a shuttle service that takes shoppers from the transit center near the coliseum to Columbia Center mall and to other stores in the area.
Another public hearing on the proposals is scheduled at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Prosser library, 902 Seventh St.
