Murray includes $200,000 in ag bill

By the Herald staff

Money for research in Prosser of genetic disease resistance in forage crops has been included in the Senate's Agriculture Appropriations Bill, which passed the appropriations subcommittee Monday, according to Washington Sen. Patty Murray's office.

About $200,000 would advance U.S. Department of Agriculture's research of genetic markers for virus resistance in alfalfa, beans and pulse crops, Murray's office said.

Other projects in the state that received funding include research addressing new potato varieties, virus-free wine grape cultivars, cool season legumes, organic crops and more, all based at Washington State University's Pullman campus, according to Murray's office.

The bill now will go to the full Senate Appropriations Committee.
