Police officers, firefighters and dispatchers were kept busy as the sun went down and the Fourth of July revelry began.
From 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., 60 fireworks complaints were called in to the Southeast Communications Center, said Kennewick police Officer Tony Valdez.
Kennewick cops spent most of the shift handling fireworks complaints and assisting with traffic issues after the fireworks show in Columbia Park, Valdez said.
Kennewick firefighters quickly extinguished a small field fire near 45th Avenue and Ely Street, while Benton Fire District 1 crews battled a 50-acre fire south of Highway 397 and Olympia Street.
Fireworks are suspected to be to blame for that blaze as well as the one in south Richland that scorched about 20 acres of a hillside above Meadow Springs.
One firefighter suffered smoke inhalation and was treated at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland.
