A Richland High grad and former Miss Tri-Cities has taken the crown in Texas.
Kristen Blair was named the new Miss Texas 2009, after competing against 36 other contestants Friday at the University of Texas in Arlington.
Blair, 22, was the reigning Miss North Texas and had won a talent round in the Miss Texas Scholarship Pageant earlier in the week. She sang aria from a Puccini opera.
A graduate of Richland High in 2004, Blair competed in the Miss Tri-Cities competition in 2004 and again in 2005, when she won the crown.
In the Miss Washington Scholarship Pageant that year, she placed in the top 10 and was a preliminary talent winner.
Blair studied vocal performance and elementary education at Columbia Basin College.
She is now studying vocal performance at the University of North Texas.
As Miss Texas 2009, Blair receives a $12,000 scholarship, and will travel to Las Vegas in January to compete in the Miss America pageant, the Associated Press said.
