A 26-year-old Kennewick man was arrested on New Year's Day after he ran several red lights trying to get away from Pasco officers who suspected he was driving drunk, police said.
Noah James Van Sickle ended up crashing his 2000 Volkswagen Passat when he tried to get on Highway 12 from A Street and rolled into a ditch, said Pasco police Capt. Jim Raymond.
He ran away from the crash scene, but was tracked down a short time later by a K-9 unit, Raymond said.
The incident started in the area of 20th Avenue and A Street when officers saw the Passat speeding and suspected the driver of DUI, Raymond said.
Van Sickle immediately sped away from officers, running several lights, he said. He was reportedly going too fast while taking the on-ramp to Highway 12 and rolled into the ditch.
By the time officers caught up with the Passat, Van Sickle was gone. A K-9 unit found him a short time later hiding in a fenced compound in the 300 block of East Circle B, Raymond said.
Van Sickle was arrested on suspicion of DUI, eluding officers and driving with a suspended license.
He was treated at a hospital for minor injuries from the crash and bites received from the dog, then booked into the Franklin County jail, Raymond said.
A female passenger in the vehicle was treated at the scene and released.

A 31-year-old man and 42-year-old woman were treated for stab wounds at Good Shepherd Medical Center and later released, Johnson said.
Jason Atiken, who lives at the home where the fight took place, was arrested.
Atiken was booked into the Umatilla County jail on suspicion of one count of first-degree assault, five counts of second-degree assault, menacing and interference with making a report.
He also was arrested on two felony warrants for a parole violation and a Umatilla County warrant for burglary, menacing, criminal mischief and trespass.
Othello man jailed for alleged theft, assault, robbery
An Othello man landed in jail on New Year's Day after he reportedly tried to steal cologne from a retail store and fought with security officers who tried to stop him.
Store security officers spotted Brandon Lynn Pierce, 42, at JCPenney trying to conceal about $150 worth of cologne, said Kennewick police Officer Tony Valdez.
When they tried to stop him, he ran out of the Columbia Center mall and toward Kohl's, police said. Pierce fought with the security until Kennewick officers arrived, Valdez said.
When he was searched, officers also discovered he had stolen more than $900 worth of jewelry, Valdez said.
Pierce was arrested and booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of second-degree theft, third-degree assault and second-degree robbery.
