Meals on Wheels wins $1,000 creativity grant

By the Herald staff

Mid-Columbia Meals on Wheels has received a $1,000 grant from the Meals on Wheels Association of America.

The grants are awarded nationally to Meals on Wheels programs that use creativity and collaboration to serve communities.

In March 2008, Mid-Columbia Meals on Wheels recruited Mayors John Fox of Richland, Jim Beaver of Kennewick, Lloyd Carnahan of Benton City and Gary Walton of Connell to deliver meals to homebound seniors.

"Mayors for Meals" is a national campaign designed to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage local communities to act to meet the needs of elder citizens.

Mid-Columbia Meals on Wheels is a community service of Senior Life Resources Northwest Inc. In 2007, more than 123,000 meals were served by 240 volunteers.
