Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Jon. He's addicted to porn and finds videos on his computer better than real women. Not that he doesn't give women a try too. Jon is a master at picking up beautiful women. He's also very religious and a practicing Catholic. Each week finds him at confession and each week doing penance while lifting weights to keep his perfect body perfect.
Then he meets the perfect woman. But he's addicted to porn, and it gets in the way.
Levitt, bad haircut and all, is terrific as Jon, and Scarlett Johansson is exceptional as his self-absorbed love. A long-not-seen Tony Danza is perfect as Jon's dad, Glenne Headly does his mom and Julianne Moore adds flavor as Jon's voice of sanity.
A talented and creative actor with unlimited dramatic and comedy range, Levitt is not afraid to push his boundaries. Don Jon is his first attempt at writing and directing a major motion picture. It's a great start.
Don Jon is not for everybody. It's a seriously mature, and if you give it some thought, a deep and very funny exploration of a problem that no doubt faces many people today
