An interesting note. A film based on Greek mythology is done by a guy named Thor Freudenthal.
Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters is the sequel to the 2010 film and picks up the life of Percy -- Perseus -- at a protected camp for the sons and daughters of the gods.
Sea of Monsters is based on Ric Riordan's popular novel. Bad guys kill the fabled tree that protects the group, and to heal the tree and save everyone, Percy and friends must find the Golden Fleece. It's on an island being guarded by a cyclops. Getting there is an adventure as well as a competition between Percy, who's the best of the camp's best, and his rival Clarisse.
Percy is nicely played again by Logan Lerman (The Perks of Being a Wallflower). He's supported by a cast of equal unknowns. Stanley Tucci -- who is flat out hilarious -- and Nathan Fillion are the only name actors in the cast.
Greek and Roman mythology have been fantasy movie favorites since the late 1950s. Fast-forward 50 or so years and amp up the effects and not much has changed. The effects are pretty good, and this is a great way for young people to learn about Greek mythology. It is also a nice fit for the Harry Potter movie fans still going through withdrawals.
