The annual Mardi Paws party kicks off at 5:30 p.m. June 21 at the Three Rivers Convention Center in Kennewick.
It’s open to all ages and features games, live and silent auctions, a dessert dash, food and beverages.
Admission is $50. Proceeds benefit homeless cats and dogs at the Benton Franklin Humane Society shelter in Kennewick.
“Mardi Paws is our biggest fundraiser of the year,” said Elaine Allison, operations manager for the humane society.
The event is held in the middle of the year because donations typically dwindle during the summer months.
“The fundraiser helps pay for the rest of the year’s operations costs, and directly impacts the care of our animals,” Allison said.
Some of the fun packages up for auction include an African photo safari, a seat at dinner during the Chefs on Parade tour, specialty wines, a mystery prize in the trunk of a car, and the chance to be a race car driver for a day.
Performance Racing School in Kent donated the expertise for a Jimmie Johnson wannabe to break all the street rules and race on a track in either their own car or the school’s, Allison said.
“If you are feeling really cocky you can upgrade to rent one of their cars,” she added.
The African safari package is for those with a hankering to shoot wild animals with a camera instead of a gun.
“It’s a seven-day package and only hunting with a camera is allowed,” Allison said. “I know a few people who have taken this trip and said it was amazing.”
Allison might bid on the Chefs on Parade deal herself, she said.
“The Home Builders Association stages and showcases their new homes and people get a meal prepared for them in these new homes by local five-star chefs,” she said. “I hear it’s next to impossible to buy a ticket to this event.”
There also will be an auction item to spend a day roller skating with an Atomic City Roller girl.
Tickets are available at www.brownpapertickets.com or the humane society facility at 1736 E. Seventh Ave., Kennewick. For more information, call 509-374-4235.
