Columbia Basin College Planetarium's next event will be May 14 and features the debut showing of the new full-dome movie Dynamic Earth: Exploring Earth's Climate Engine.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Showtime is 6 p.m. Admission is free. It's recommended that visitors reserve a seat in advance at www.columbiabasin.edu/planet.
The film explores the many interwoven impacts on Earth's climate with cutting-edge visualizations of supercomputer simulations, satellite data, Earth's biosphere and more.
The audience also will be able to ride on the winds of a monster hurricane, dive among the teeming life of the ocean and soar safely through the fury of an underwater volcano. The film is narrated by film actor Liam Neeson.
There will be a discussion following the film led by Chuck Long and Laura Riihimaki, scientists from Pacific Northwest National Laboratories, Raymond Lam from Silk Road Environmental, and Rik Smith from Columbia Basin College.
