Celebrating families is what the annual Family Expo is all about.
This year's event is Jan. 24-25 at the TRAC facility in Pasco and features the usual fun stuff for kids and adults, as well as some new features.
Staci Wertenberger of West Richland has been a long-time visitor to the Family Expo and hasn't missed one with her daughters since it started seven years ago.
"My daughters are now 11 and 8," Wertenberger said. "They both look forward to this event as much as I do."
Never miss a local story.
That's because there's something for every age and gender, she said.
"I enjoy all the fun shopping vendors, and my girls love the toy vendors," Wertenberger said. "Some of the entertainment we have seen in the past has been wonderful. Another amazing attraction is the Pacific Science Center, which features a different theme each year."
Superheroes also will be wandering throughout the event both days, and Trios Health will be on hand with its 30-foot inflatable heart that visitors can walk through to learn how the heart works.
The event's creator, Katie Klute of Richland, experimented with a couple of different names in the first few years with a moderate turnout, she said.
"It used to be Baby Expo then the Kids and Baby Expo," Klute said. "Once I changed it to Family Expo, it started to come alive. We started with 85 vendors and saw 1,800 people during the two days. Now I have 100 vendors and we see more than 5,000 over the course of two days."
