The Tri-Cities Figure Skating Club will perform its annual holiday show Dec. 20 at the Toyota Arena in Kennewick.
This year's exhibition is called Winter Ice Magic and features segments honoring the Olympics.
"This year, with the upcoming Olympics, we thought an opening to the Olympic bugle theme by John Williams would be well received," said Jennifer Bond, who codirects the show with her husband Craig. "Five of our better skaters will carry and perform with the rings and create the Olympia five-ring emblem, (while) other skaters will pass the torch around, finally lighting it on the ice."
The show also features skaters carrying flags from USA, United Kingdom, Russia, Canada and China during the opening scene.
Never miss a local story.
Ice skaters ranging in age from 3 to 65 are taking part in this year's Christmas show with solos, duets and group numbers to a selection of Christmas tunes.
The Bonds each have an extensive background in ice skating.
"Craig and I both skated nationally and internationally for our countries while amateurs, Craig for the USA and I for Great Britain," Bond said.
They were directors of the Genesee Figure Skating Club in Rochester, N.Y., for 18 years before moving to the Tri-Cities in 2010 to head the Tri-Cities Skating Club.
While in Rochester, they choreographed several skating shows shown on national public TV, Jennifer Bond said.
"In 1984, we were asked by the city to choreograph a holiday show with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra," she said. "It was such a success, we continued to perform that show with the orchestra until 1998."
When community funding for the show ran out, the couple created their own holiday ice show through its skating club, which continued until they moved to the Tri-Cities, Jennifer Bond said.
Winter Ice Magic, which starts at 6:30 p.m., runs about 1 1/2 hours and is recommended for all ages. It will be in the Toyota Arena, which is next to the Toyota Center in Kennewick.
Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for kids. Ages 3 and younger are free. Tickets are available at the door.
