Noted jazz trumpeter Ingrid Jensen brings her savvy sound to Hanford High School on Dec. 10 in the school's auditorium.
"She's probably the biggest name that we've brought into the school since we've been doing the guest artist concerts," said Chris Newbury, Hanford music teacher. "She is an internationally known jazz trumpet player from British Columbia, and she's awesome."
Tickets to the concert cost $10 and are available at Ted Brown Music on North Columbia Center Boulevard, Richland, or at the door. Also performing with Jensen will be the Hanford High Jazz Ensemble.
During Jensen's visit, she will conduct a two-day workshop with students, which culminates with the concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 10.
She's been a musical guest on Saturday Night Live along with British soul singer Corinne Bailey Rae. She has also performed with Peter Frampton and Dennis Leary, the actor and comedian who's also a musician.
She was a featured soloist with singer Madelaine Peyroux as part of a tribute to the Billy Holiday project in Brazil, which included bass legend Ron Carter and piano virtuoso Mulgrew Miller, Newbury said.
She was raised in the small community of Nanaimo, British Columbia, and headed for Berklee College of Music in Boston after graduating from high school.
After obtaining her music degree in 1989, she spent time playing her trumpet and fugelhorn in the subways of New York City.
