Disney on Ice skater Kristin Cowan, 26, grew up in Spokane with a hockey-playing grandfather and uncle.
"But it was really my mother who introduced me to ice skating," Cowan told the Herald in a recent phone interview. "She used to skate with the Ice Capades."
Cowan fell in love with the ice at age 5, and 20 years later followed in her mother's footsteps. She started skating professionally, though not for the Ice Capades.
She skated with Holiday on Ice show in Europe before landing the lead role of Ariel in the Disney on Ice production of Rockin' Ever After, which comes to the Tri-Cities Nov. 1-3 at the Toyota Center in Kennewick.
Never miss a local story.
"This is my second year with Disney's Rockin' Ever After, and I'm having a fabulous time," Cowan said.
Don't think for one moment that you have to be a kid to love this show. Rockin' Ever After blends the delightful tales of Brave, Tangled, The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast together for a musical feast on ice.
As the story unfolds, Ariel and her adorable lobster chum, Sebastian, kick off the show by making all kinds of musical waves that Cowan describes as "balletic, lyrical and classical."
After Ariel, a chorus of hooligans from Tangled will unleash musical mayhem as they go head-to-head with the spirited Rapunzel and her friend Flynn. If that isn't enough fairytale fun for the whole family, Belle and her Beast will wrap up the show with a glitzy mix of rockin' royalty.
Cowan doesn't plan to make it a career, even though she has a soulful connection to ice skating, she said.
"I've always been into math, so I'd really like to be an accountant," she said. "But right now, I'm having more fun skating with this Disney show."
Rockin' Ever After performances are at 7 p.m. Nov. 1-2 with matinees at 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Nov. 2 and 12:30 and 4:30 p.m. Nov. 3.
Tickets cost $18 to $58. Opening night tickets are $12 for general admission. Tickets are $10 for kids ages 2 to 11 for the 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. shows.
