The LIGO Hanford Observatory will hold an astronomy event to watch the Perseid meteor shower, which will peak Aug. 13, starting at 9 p.m. Aug. 10 at the Richland observatory, 12724 N. Highway 10 in Richland.
The Tri-City Astronomy Club will have telescopes set up throughout the night for visitors to take glimpses of the meteor shower as well as Saturn, nebulae, galaxies, star clusters and constellations.
Fred Raab, who heads the observatory, will give a presentation titled The Sounds of the Future: Listening to the Birth Cries of Black Holes, starting at 8 p.m. in the observatory's auditorium.
Admission is free, and all ages are welcome. Viewing continues until about 1 a.m.
