Legendary singer-songwriter Lyle Lovett performs a concert Aug. 4 at the Wildhorse Resort & Casino in Pendleton.
Lovett has poked around the music scene for 30 years, and his style blends folk, swing, blues, jazz and gospel, as well as country.
And though he's known for his charming stage presence as well as his songwriting savvy, he gained even greater fame in 1993 when he married megastar Julia Roberts. They divorced two years later.
The Texas-bred musician, 55, started out in the music business as a songwriter. Before long, he had a record deal with MCA Records, and released his debut album in 1986.
Never miss a local story.
Esquire magazine awarded Lovett its Esky Award in 2006. The magazine described Lovett as a musician with "class, charisma and consistency" who has "spent two decades gracefully matching genuine songcraft with A-list musicianship."
He's won four Grammy Awards, including best male country vocal performance and best country album. According to his website, he's recorded 13 albums and 21 hit singles.
Lovett has lent his talent to TV as well as the silver screen, with guest appearances on Dharma and Greg, Mad About You, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Short Cuts and The Player, which is where he met Roberts.
Tickets cost $20 for lawn seating or $55 for premium seats. Ticket holders 21 and older also receive $5 in free slot play with each ticket. Tickets are available at the casino gift shop, by calling 800-494-8497 or at www.wildhorseresort.com.
