The Tri-City Tappers earned two first-place gold medals for tap dancing at the Move Production Northwest Regional Dance Competition held May 11-13 in Spokane.
The 20-member Tappers troupe, under the guidance of Kim Stock, competed against 387 other dancers from around the Northwest in jazz, ballet, hip, acrobatic and tap categories.
What makes the Tappers' win even more extraordinary is that the dance troupe is made up of women all older than the age of 60.
"My girls worked hard and did a wonderful job," Stock said of her dancers. "I am humbled by the reception we received and simply so proud of all my dancers."
Never miss a local story.
Stock, a former Las Vegas showgirl, has been teaching tap dancing in the Tri-Cities for several years. Her Tappers have been competing in competitions for three years, placing third the first year and second place last year.
"This is the first time we've done two dances at a competition," Stock said. "And now we received two first-place trophies. My girls are getting more confident with experience."
The Tappers have upcoming performances at 2 p.m. June 13 at the Prosser Sun Terrace Retirement community, 3 p.m. July 18 at the Canyon Lakes Rehabilitation Center in Kennewick and 11 a.m. Aug. 15 at the Fleur de' Lis Assisted Living Home in Kennewick.
