Beautiful music during a beautiful season is at the heart of A Home for the Holidays concert planned for 3 p.m. Dec. 17.
Proceeds from the concert will benefit the newly opened My Friends Place, which offers a safe and welcoming environment in Kennewick for homeless teenagers.
The concert features a repertoire of music that organizers say will bridge cultural, economic and social boundaries in a diverse celebration of Christmas.
Featured performers include the Mid-Columbia Mastersingers, the Richland School District Honor Choir, the Ochoa Middle School choirs, the Rowena Chess Elementary School choirs, the Mid-Columbia Trombone Ensemble, performances by the Mid-Columbia Musical Theatre (formerly Richland Light Opera Company) and soprano Mitzi Lundberg.
The Arts Center Task Force, a supporter of My Friends Place, is sponsoring the concert. It also is a coalition of performing arts organizations, and its supporters are working with the Tri-Cities Regional Public Facilities District to build a performing arts center in the Tri-Cities.
The task force includes the Mid-Columbia Ballet, the Mid-Columbia Mastersingers, the Mid-Columbia Musical Theater and the Mid-Columbia Symphony.
My Friends Place opened Nov. 30 at 1112 N. Grant Place, Kennewick.
Though admission to the concert is free, organizers are asking for donations of dry or canned food that will be donated to the Christian Church food bank.
Cash donations to My Friends Place also are welcome.
