A hip-hop event that benefits the Toys for Tots organization takes place Dec. 15 at the Rock Reactor in downtown Kennewick.
Featured hip-hop artists scheduled to perform include Ill Mannerd, Dead Rabbits, Firing Squad, Phat Ass Records, Black Rhino Camp, Verbal Ammunition and DJ Flip.
The event is sponsored by The Shanty Radio, which is an internet radio show that features local artists, said Chris Davis, a spokesman for the event.
"We started doing music in the Tri-Cities in 2001 and have traveled the country doing hip hop," Davis said. "We wanted to do something that would help spread the word about the events that are going on as well as would give an outlet for all the artists who come to perform.
"Unfortunately, local radio stations aren't able to play music from local artists much."
There also weren't many venues in the area that would feature hip-hop music on a regular basis until the Rock Reactor stepped up to the plate, he added.
Admission is $5 at the door. Music starts at 8 p.m. Those who bring a donation of a toy for low-income children will be eligible for prize drawings.
