Kamiakin High's first play of the school year has all the hilarious trappings of a creepy Young Frankenstein movie.
The play, The Creature Creeps, opens Oct. 27 in the school's auditorium.
The story takes place in an ancient castle, complete with creaking doors, a mad scientist, his misshapen assistant, a grim housekeeper, a secret laboratory, shrieks from a cellar, disappearing villagers and all sorts of other Halloween spookiness, said Candy Olsen, who is co-directing the play with her husband Rex.
"This is just good family entertainment, especially for this time of year with Halloween right around the corner," she said. "It is appropriate for all audiences except age 5 and younger."
Never miss a local story.
The lead characters are played by Tanner Knight as the mad scientist Donald Von Blitzen, McKenzie Kennedy plays his daughter Daisy Von Blitzen, Hailey Paine plays Daisy's college roommate Babsy, Taryn Meacham is the dour housekeeper Gretchen and Kaelah Phipps plays the mad scientist's wife Maritza. Kellen McIntyre portrays Mord the deformed assistant.
There are enough similarities in The Creature Creeps to evoke giggles.
Showtime is 7 p.m. Oct. 27-29 plus a matinee performance at 2 p.m. Oct. 29.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Tickets are available at the door.
