Acrobats doing handstands as they balance precariously on chairs stacked high in the air can leave an audience holding its breath.
And it is that precision of balance and grace that keeps people around the globe clamoring to see the Shangri-La Chinese Acrobats show, which comes to the Tri-Cities on Oct. 17 in the auditorium at Richland High School.
The exhibition is the first of the Community Concerts of Tri-Cities' new 2011-12 season. There are five events planned in the series and season tickets are $45 for adults and $20 for students. The family rate is $105 for two adults and three kids.
Individual tickets also will be available for each event too. Those cost $20 for adults and $10 for students.
The Shangri-La Chinese Acrobats troupe puts on a multi-faceted and multi-cultural production in dazzling costumes and with plenty of energy.
The rest of the season will be just as entertaining with a good mix of musical showmanship. Here's the schedule:
Nov. 21: The Poulenc Trio performs in the Richland High auditorium. The three virtuosos -- oboist Vladimir Lande, bassoonist Bryan Young and pianist Irina Kaplan -- combine 21st century vibrancy with the best of European instrumental tradition, enthralling audiences worldwide.
Feb. 24: Deborah Henson-Conant, a Grammy-nominated harpist, performs in the auditorium at Faith Assembly Church in Pasco.
March 17: Il Voce brings their romantic, classical, pop and opera favorites to Faith Assembly.
May 16: Chris Burton's sultry flamenco guitar performance is in the auditorium at Richland High.
All concerts start at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at www.communityconcertstc.org or call Hazel Hanson at 547-6243 or Yvonne Plahuta at 946-1162.
There also will be community concert seasons starting this fall in the Lower Valley, Moses Lake, Wenatchee and The Dalles, Ore.
