WALLA WALLA -- Happily ever after is more of a pipe dream than reality when it comes to fairy tales.
But that doesn't make the stories any less entertaining, especially when you add music.
Into the Woods, which opens April 30 at The Little Theatre in Walla Walla, takes four of the Grimm brothers best known stories -- Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood and Rapunzel -- and weaves them into the story of a childless couple desperate for a happy-ever-after life together.
The Stephen Sondheim musical is co-directed by the husband and wife team of Brian and Becky Hatley.
Becky Hatley describes the show as, "Favorite Grimms' fairy tales written with a twist."
"These are your grandmother's fairy tales, not Disney's, so think PG (rating)," added the show's producer Megan Smith.
The Little Theater also had help from the Walla Walla Foundry in creating the latex masks for the wolf and witch.
Showtime is 8 p.m. April 30, May 1, 7-8, 14-15, 21-22 with 2 p.m. matinees May 9 and 16 at the Little Theatre, 1130 Sumach St., Walla Walla.
Tickets are $13 for adults, $10 for ages 12 and younger and are available at the box office or call 509-529-3683.
