Let Loose Media promoter David Johnson may have moved to Hawaii, but his heart is still in the Tri-City music scene.
"I noticed there was a huge gap this last summer where there was no music," Johnson said. "Long story short, I'm trying to give kids more shows. ... I don't want to see no music in Tri-Cities because there was a huge six-month gap with nothing."
For three years, the 22-year-old has been booking shows in Walla Walla, Spokane, Seattle and Portland. Then he recently moved to Hawaii for the weather but wants to remain involved in booking shows in the Tri-Cities.
His current project is a heavy metal concert at 7 p.m. Jan. 16 at Central United Protestant Church in Richland with performances by Danny the Champion of the World, Wade Wilson, Diamond City Murder, Voice of a Liar, and Testimony of the Ancients.
Never miss a local story.
The show will mark the first time Wade Wilson has played with its new lineup since the band broke up last year. The last three bands are fairly new collaborations that Johnson is excited for people to see.
"We're really influenced by Bosch, I Refuse and bands like that," said Jacob Gosselin, guitarist for Champion of the World. "We're kind of a hard-core metal punk band. I've been to Kennewick before. Hopefully it will be a good show."
Gosselin met Johnson through mutual friends and booked the show during their 21⁄2 week West Coast tour ending in Vancouver, Wash.
Johnson also has another show on Jan. 30 at the Warehouse in Kennewick. If you haven't heard of the Warehouse, it's exactly what it sounds like.
"(My friend's) dad owns a warehouse for a construction company in Kennewick," Johnson said. "We're basically trying to start up a brand-new venue in Kennewick. We have a huge show on Jan. 30 featuring Outbreak there, with eight bands playing that show. It's a super big show for Tri-Cities."
While he doesn't know how long he'll stay in his new tropical surroundings, Johnson is wasting no time expanding his portfolio, booking bands such as New Found Glory to perform in Hawaii.
CUP is at 1124 Stevens Drive in Richland. The Warehouse is at 108815 E. Badger Road in Kennewick. Admission is $6.
