Umatilla Christmas tree sales benefit needy
The annual shipment of douglas and noble fir Christmas trees have arrived at the downtown Umatilla Fire Station.
For a fee, volunteers will flock your Christmas tree. Once a tree is flocked it will need to dry for 24 hours before it can be taken home.
Proceeds from the Christmas tree sales go toward community outreach activities the volunteers contribute to each year. Most of the money raised is used to purchase food for the Christmas baskets for the needy.
The Umatilla Volunteer Firefighters Association is seeking applicants for this year's Christmas basket program. Volunteers are looking to help individuals and families, young or old, who have fallen on hard times and are in need of assistance with food this Christmas.
If you know of someone who fits this profile, the volunteers ask that you submit an application. Applications are available at the Umatilla Police Department, city hall and at Santa's Shoppe inside the downtown fire station. Applications are due Dec. 11 at the fire station.
