HERMISTON -- A teddy bear parade and a watermelon seed-spitting contest are just a few of the events scheduled for the third annual FunFest celebration July 12 in Hermiston.
The day starts with a 7 a.m. 5K run/walk and a 10K run at Newport Park. Registration starts at 6:15 a.m., but the run/walk is free.
The Hermiston Rotary Club's pancake breakfast on Main Street runs from 7 to 9 a.m. The breakfast costs $5 for adults, $4 for students and seniors, $3 for kids 12 and younger.
A children's teddy bear parade starts at 9:30 a.m. from Sherrell Chevrolet. There is no entry fee. The dealership also will play host to lawnmower drag races at 10 a.m., noon, 2 and 4 p.m.

More than 40 booths, games and food vendors also will open along Main Street at 10 a.m.
A classic car and motorcycle show will be at the Umatilla Fairgrounds off Highway 395. Registration costs $20 per vehicle.
The Cayuse Junior Rodeo starts at 10 a.m. at the Umatilla County Fairgrounds. The event is open to ages 6-18. Participation fees are $15 to $25, depending on the event. To preregister or for more information, call Sherie Britt at 541-289-8100. Participants can register on the day of the event. There is no spectator fee.
A street dance starts at 8 p.m. on Main Street featuring Blue Tattoo.
