Vince Sapienza sees himself as a man of the people.
The KEPR sports director and reporter has become one of the most recognizable faces of local athletics in the area.
Sapienza, 25, aims to put his own stamp on delivering sports news to his viewers while still maintaining the down-to-earth attitude that has helped him get to where he is today.
“I try and deliver the stuff behind the desk like I’m just sitting on your couch on a Sunday watching the game,” he said.
Sapienza originally started out as a news reporter in Texas, but quickly realized he wanted to switch to sports, which he has been passionate about since childhood, he said. The hockey enthusiast came to KEPR in 2012 and quickly elevated himself to the top position in the sports department.
The diverse sports landscape in the Tri-Cities — with everything from rodeo to indoor football — provides Sapienza with a wide variety of stories and highlights.
“I feel so lucky to be in this market because there is never a dull day,” he said.
His sportscasts at 6 and 11 p.m. are sometimes sprinkled with movie references and the well-known Invincible Play of the Day, which highlights one light-hearted or jaw-dropping sports moment.
Sports also led Sapienza to his wife, Briana, whom he met while playing indoor soccer.
“Sports has given me everything in my life — a wife, a career, everything,” he said.
