A family-run business, Shang Hai Restaurant operates from an unassuming building on Clearwater Avenue.
The flavors inside, however, have customers excited.
The menu includes favorites from soups — egg flower and hot and sour — to General Tso’s chicken and sweet and sour pork, with all the familiar dishes and flavors in between. Spicy items are marked with a pepper on the menu, from the pepper sautéed shrimp to the Hunan beef.
Diners cheered the restaurant not only for its taste, but for its value. Lunch specials — served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday — are less than $5 and include a spring roll and pork fried rice.
Although it is best known for its Chinese flavors, Shang Hai Restaurant does have an American section on the menu that includes items like hamburgers, grilled cheese, pork chops and fish and chips.
