When doctors Janine Swailes and Susan Thorson started Meadow Hills Veterinary Center in 1995, it employed four people: two vets, a receptionist and a part-time bookkeeper.
Fast forward 20 years and Meadow Hills has two locations — 8802 West Gage Blvd. and 3711 Plaza Way in the Southridge complex, both in Kennewick — with 48 full- and part-time employees.
And that’s not counting the animals.
Though 95 percent of the pets they care for are cats and dogs, they also treat rabbits, ferrets, gerbils, guinea pigs, rats and other small mammals.
“We do not use a ‘one size fits all’ philosophy,” said Dr. Brian Conrad, a practice manager for Meadow Hills since 1999. “We strive to provide options that work for each owner and their pet. Because our staff is so large, we are able to observe each pet closely for signs of pain, response to treatment and anesthesia, and continued comfort.”
The center has been chosen as the best veterinarian in the Tri-Cities by People’s Choice voters. So what does the next 20 years look like?
“The future is bright,” Conrad said. “We continue to re-invest in both clinics to offer the latest in technology and medicine available to our beloved pets.”
Pet owners also can access their pets’ records online, request appointments, and text in food and medication orders.
“Our goal is to make life easy, convenient and accessible,” Conrad said.
Meadow Hills is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. For more information, go to www.mhvc.net.
