2017 Best Asian Cuisine: Double Dragon Restaurant

Owners Lisa and Ron Chen opened Double Dragon in 1999 in Kennewick. Although both came from China, they met in Portland and opened their first restaurant in Hermiston in 1993. They closed that restaurant in 1998 to open the current location. Lisa said many of the recipes come from her husband’s side of the family and he cooks everything fresh daily.

2017 Best Bakery: Viera’s Bakery

Viera’s Bakery is a longstanding local favorite in the Tri-Cities and is well-known for their fresh churros as well as their many flavors of empanadas: Bavarian cream, pineapple, apple, sweet potato, strawberry, guava and coconut. Traditional pan dulce, including roscas de reyes, a cake pastry traditionally eaten to celebrate Epiphany, and pan de muerto, traditionally eaten around Dia de los Muertos, are a specialty. They also serve flan, tres leches, gelatinas and much more.

2017 Best Cocktails: Twigs Bistro

Twigs Bistro and Martini Bar is known for its wonderful atmosphere, great food and creative cocktails. Based in Spokane, Twigs owners opened the location at Columbia Center Mall in 2011. With a colorful, well-stocked bar that matches an array of specialty drinks, customers can choose from a selection of 26 different martinis and plenty of classic cocktails.

2017 Best Fine Dining & Best Seafood: Anthony’s at Columbia Point

Anthony’s is part of a family of fresh seafood restaurants in the Pacific Northwest with origins dating back to 1969. Their commitment to beautiful interiors – an open concept design, which allows customers a peek into the kitchen, and large windows to showcase their waterfront views – contribute to a wonderful dining experience. Anthony’s provides fine dining with a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere.

2017 Best Italian Cuisine: Casa Mia

Consistency plays a key role in Casa Mia’s success with menu items still centered around original recipes from the first restaurant’s opening in 1952. What started as a storefront restaurant in Hoquiam, Washington, turned into seven restaurants across the state; an Italian blessing was brought to the Tri-Cities in 1993 when Dave and Glenda Brazell opened the Kennewick location.

2017 Best Mexican Cuisine: Fiesta Mexican Restaurant

Owner Isidro Ortiz established Fiesta Restaurant in 2001. An immigrant from Michoacán, Mexico, Ortiz always had a great knack for the hospitality business. He worked as the banquet manager at the Ritz-Carlton in Aspen, Colorado and helped open the Ritz in Puerto Rico. However, he really missed family, and wanted a better life for his mother, Teresa, who he calls the real CEO. With her recipes and his knowledge of the hospitality business, they opened Fiesta Restaurant in downtown Pasco with only a few tables.

2017 Best Outdoor Dining: Cedars Restaurant & Lounge

If you’re looking for a great spot next to the Columbia River for drinks or dinner, Cedars Restaurant in Kennewick has been the place to go since 1976. Originally it was called Cedars Pier, but later changed in 2006 to Cedars Restaurant, said owner and general manager Dave Mitcham. Cedars Pier was part of six chain restaurants including Cedars Floating Restaurant in Coeur D’Alene, where then 14-year-old Mitcham first started as a dishwasher. He came to the Tri-Cities in 1975.

2017 Best Ice Cream/Frozen Yogurt: MyFroYo

Walk into any of the Tri-Cities’ four MyFroYo shops and you’ll notice a sleek, clean and friendly environment. On the wall you’ll find an immense selection of frozen yogurt, including everything from vanilla to cake batter to pomegranate, and toppings that include fruit, candy, sauces, whipped cream and much more.

2017 Best Pizza: Brick House Pizza

Located on Van Giesen in West Richland, Brick House Pizza isn’t a place most people pass by daily, but that hasn’t stopped the parking lot from filling and the dining room from packing with happy customers. Brick House Pizza opened in the site almost two decades ago, and it’s kept its up its reputation as both a family-owned restaurant and a place to find high quality food.

2017 Best Sandwich Shop: Graze

John and Becca Lastoskie left California in their VW van on a two month journey with their young child and dog. Their goal: open a food business since they both liked to cook for fun. Although Portland, Seattle and Bend were all viable options, they settled in Walla Walla’s wine country and opened Graze Catering. John said the name Graze came from the couple venturing out in the evenings to sometimes five different places, starting with an appetizer at one spot and ending with dessert at another place.

2017 Best Steakhouse: Texas Roadhouse

Tri-Citians love Texas Roadhouse, and they should feel lucky to know that the Kennewick restaurant is the only Washington location of the steakhouse chain. Although Texas Roadhouse opened its doors in the Tri-Cities in 2011, the first one was opened by founder Kent Taylor in Clarksville, Indiana in 1993. There are now 500 nationwide.

2017 Best Winery/Wine Tasting Room: Tagaris Winery & Taverna Tagaris

Michael Taggares comes from a farming family of Greek origin. His descendants first began growing grapes in the 15th century, so it was only natural Taggares founded Tagaris Winery in 1987. The winery has four vineyards and 12-15 red varietals and eight white varietals. Their Bordeaux Red Blend is one of their most popular wines. They do all of their bottling on site alongside the tasting room and restaurant, Taverna Tagaris.

2017 Best Casino: Crazy Moose Casino

The top-voted casino in town wasn’t always a casino. Crazy Moose Casino in Pasco, formerly called the Moose Lodge, was opened as a casino in 2001 by three private owners. In 2003 the lodge was bought by Nevada Gold. Regional Operations Manager Harold Walford said at one point it was a comedy club and lounge, but now it operates as a casino and restaurant. Walford, who has been with the company since 2001, says he loves his job and the casino celebrated its 15th anniversary last September.

2017 Best Movie Theater: Fairchild Cinemas

Fairchild Cinemas are the premier movie theaters in the Tri-Cities and surrounding areas. Their roomy, luxurious, electronic reclining chairs take movie watching comfort up a level. Once you go Fairchild, it’s hard to settle for anything less! 2017 Best Nightlife Venue: Joker’s Night Club

Looking for a one-stop shop for all types of nightlife? Joker's has something for everyone: bowling, comedy shows, casino, bar lounge, dancing, game room and food. It began as just a bowling alley in 1958, followed by the casino addition after remodeling in 1999. Comedy shows and the nightclub were added on in 2007. Managing partner Max Faulkner came on board in 2009 to run the Atomic Bowl and the club.

2017 Best Company to Work For & Best Credit Union: Gesa Credit Union

Choosing a place to look after your financial well-being is an important decision to make, and Gesa Credit Union is thoroughly equipped to take on the task. The fifth largest credit union in Washington, Gesa was founded here locally in 1953 by employees of General Electric, and then in 1996 became a community-chartered credit union and opened membership to everyone in the state. Consumers have since discovered the value of banking with a not-for-profit cooperative.

Recently Trang and Luoc Van Nguyen celebrated 33 years of business. Earning another first place People’s Choice award is an affirmation of the reason for their longevity. Luoc puts it simply, “We work hard—really hard.” And that’s no understatement.

2017 Best Tattoo Parlor: Monarch Tattoo

This year’s win is especially meaningful to Jason Young and Kody Flannery, co-owners of the three-time People’s Choice top pick Monarch Tattoo. “It’s our first year owning Monarch exclusively,” said Young. The pair affirms People’s Choice’s testament to the exceptional job their team has done since the shop’s start in 2000.

Kathy, who has been in the business for 20 years and owner of Studio One for 10 years, believes that what sets Studio One apart is their passion for the industry, as well as continued education. 2017 Best Caterer: CG Public House

Shirley Simmons has been around the restaurant business her entire life. Her parents, Chuck and Mabel Wyatt, owned the Pancake Corral, which opened in 1979 at the corner of Highway 395 and Vista Street in Kennewick. The public loved it and as customers increased, it was remodeled and renamed The Country Gentleman in 1984 by Shirley’s sister Marge and Gerald Van Zuyen.
