closeKENNEWICK -- Cascade Natural Gas Corp. said Wednesday that it picked a site in Kennewick for the location of its new general office.
Construction is expected to start soon on the new building, at 8113 Grandridge Blvd., and the company expects to move in by August 2010, Cascade announced.
In June, Cascade said it planned to relocate its main office from Seattle to the Tri-Cities.
Company officials have said the move will bring about 80 jobs to the community, although an unknown number of those may be filled by employees who transfer.
A number of Washington communities were considered before company officials decided to move to the Tri-Cities, according to North Dakota-based MDU Resources Group, which acquired Cascade in July 2007.
"This move was driven by a desire to be more centrally located to our overall operations and to be located in an area with a significant customer base," Dave Goodin, president and chief executive officer of Cascade, said in a statement.
Cascade is a natural gas distribution company serving about 255,000 residential, commercial, industrial and transportation customers in 93 communities in Washington and Oregon.
The company said in June that the move was part of a corporate strategy to streamline operations of four MDU-owned utilities -- Montana-Dakota Utilities Co., Great Plains Natural Gas Co., Cascade Natural Gas Corp. and Intermountain Gas Co. -- that serve customers in eight states.
Cascade contacted the Tri-City Development Council in February and company officials toured the Tri-Cities in March.
Carl Adrian, president and CEO of TRIDEC, has said the presence of Cascade would bolster TRIDEC's marketing of the community to other businesses.
Chervenell Construction Co. is the construction contractor, while Tippett Company is the project manager and Meier Architecture-Engineering will be the building architect, according to Cascade.
