Washington’s minimum wage will not increase in 2010 for the first time since a 1998 voter initiative mandated that the state minimum wage be adjusted annually for inflation.
The state’s minimum wage will continue to be $8.55 an hour because the federal consumer price index for the past 12 months did not increase. It, in fact, decreased 1.9 percent during the 12-month period ending in August.
Other states which adjust the minimum wage based on inflation are Oregon, Vermont, Ohio, Nevada, Montana, Missouri, Florida, Colorado, and Arizona.
For more information on Washington’s minimum wage, call 360-902-5316 or 866-219-7321 or visit www.lni.wa.gov
