Pratik Joshi, Herald staff writer

The Tri-Cities is ranked 195 out of 363 metro areas in the country in terms of 2006 Gross Domestic Product in current dollars, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis anounced today, Sept. 25.

In the Tri-Cities, professional and technical services, administrative and waster services, waste management and remediation services, government, professional and business services and education and health services are some of the major contributors to the GDP.

The retail, leisure and hospitality sectors and real estate, among others, also help add to the GDP in the area, which stood at more than $7.5 billion.

Kennewick-Pasco-Richland's real GDP in 2006 was pegged at $6.58 billion. It grew 3.5 percent from 2004-05, but declined 0.4 percent from 2005-06, the report says.

Nationwide, real GDP in metro areas grew 3.2 percent in 2006.
