Annie Fowler was born and raised in Eastern Oregon and graduated from Southern Oregon University in 1988 with degrees in communication and journalism. She has been at the Herald since March of 2000 and began covering the Tri-City Americans in 2002. She still enjoys a good game of football, but these days she gets her fill by watching her son play for Southridge High School.

WHL pokey with the scheduling

Trying to plan vacation and days off without the Americans schedule is no easy task. With my son playing high school football, Friday nights will become football nights in the Fowler family. With one kid, he comes before the 20 or so who will invade Toyota Center from August to April. I've only missed two home games since I started covering the Americans oh so many years ago, but football is one night a week, and the Americans are bound to be on the road for a few of those Friday nights.

I've never missed one of my son's football games since he started playing Grid Kids when he was 8. When the Americans opened their season at Kootenay in 2005, I left Cranbrook at 5:30 the next morning to make it back for a football game.

The WHL brass won't meet until early August to put together the season schedule. It could have been done this week as all the appropriate people were in Vancouver for the annual general meeting. There was golf Monday and the meeting Tuesday. Order another round and hash out the schedule.

The OHL and QMJHL have already released their schedules. Seattle no longer has to fight with the NBA for dates at KeyArena, and Portland may or may not get any dates at the Rose Garden. Plan them all for the aging Memorial Coliseum. When the NBA sked comes out, you can move some games across the street. Calgary and Edmonton may be another story, sharing venues with NHL teams, but I'm sure something could be done before August because the NHL sked should be out in mid-July.

No sense in keeping the fans waiting.
