Annie Fowler was born and raised in Eastern Oregon and graduated from Southern Oregon University in 1988 with degrees in communication and journalism. She has been at the Herald since March of 2000 and began covering the Tri-City Americans in 2002. She still enjoys a good game of football, but these days she gets her fill by watching her son play for Southridge High School. |
At each end of the Toyota Center sits a goal judge, who flips the switch when the Americans or their opponent scores a goal.
Turning on the red light for 20 years and hundreds of goals was Les Borms of Kennewick. Part of a friendly group of off-ice officials, Les was a no-nonsense kind of guy, but he always had a "hello" and we had many conversations about the Americans, hockey in general and other sports.
Les passed away June 8 after battling cancer, leaving the red light at the non-Zamboni end of the rink to the capable hands of another dedicated volunteer.
Les passed his love of hockey to his son Torrey and daughter Tracey, who both have done off-ice work over the years.
