Annie Fowler was born and raised in Eastern Oregon and graduated from Southern Oregon University in 1988 with degrees in communication and journalism. She has been at the Herald since March of 2000 and began covering the Tri-City Americans in 2002. She still enjoys a good game of football, but these days she gets her fill by watching her son play for Southridge High School.

When all is quiet

After a season worth of blogging about other people, places and things, I find myself as an item in Kelowna Rockets radio announcer Regan Bartel's blog -- Regan's Rant.

Here's what he had to say:

"I can hear it from here. Annie Fowler is the beat writer for the Tri-City Herald and can be heard clearly from my broadcast location at the Toyota Center while she's banging out a story. The reason? Nails baby. Long finger nails."

You can read the entire post at Regan Bartel's blog.

Granted, when the rink is empty the clickety-clack of my nails on the keyboard echoes through the press box. Same could be said for the dead calm of the Tacoma Dome after Matt Classic when other writers are looking and listening, trying to find out where that annoying sound is coming from. Some never did.

I've had long nails since before I was married (coming up on 20 years in June). My husband has threatened to cut them off many a times, but as Regan can attest, I still have them. Today, I had my nails painted Louvre me, Louvre me not (maybe they will help me create a masterpiece), a delightful purplish color. Heidi, my nail tech (who is leaving me for the bright lights of Vegas in a couple of weeks), said it was the best color we had done in quite some time. I'm going to miss her.
