Future for Pasco's Tolar at UW may be as center

By Eric Degerman, Herald staff writer

Pasco product Ryan Tolar won't be playing football for the University of Washington in Saturday's Purple and Gold game.

In fact, the starting left guard is sitting out the spring scrimmages with a shoulder injury. But his name has been front and center since Friday after starting center Juan Garcia suffered what has been diagnosed as Lisfranc injury to his left foot.

That's the same type of injury that ended the college career of Isaiah Stanback midseason in 2006. Stanback now is a special teams player for the Dallas Cowboys.

So now there are reports that Tolar will take over as the starting center when camp opens up this summer in Montlake.

Last season, both Tolar and quarterback Jake Locker -- who were roommates last season -- were named second-team Rivals.com freshman All-Americans.
