Kim Welch, a former two-time All-American for Washington State University, rolled to victory in the final round of The Golf Channel's reality program Big Break: Ka'anapali.
Anyone who watched much of the previous segments shouldn't be surprised by the outcome. It was clear that Welch was the most accomplished of the dozen contestants.
The Sacramento, Calif., native, defeated Sophie Sandolo of France 4-and-3 in a match played at Ka'anapali Resort. The two-hour finale was broadcast for the first time Tuesday on The Golf Channel. It was the ninth season of the reality series.
Welch, 25, gets a full exemption and all entry fees paid on the 2009 Futures Tour, an endorsement deal and $10,000 with Adams Golf, and a new BMW. There's also an exemption into the LPGA Tour's 2008 Navistar Classic, which runs Sept. 25-28 in Prattville, Ala.
She ended her college career in 2005 as the school's lone four-time All-Pacific-10 player. In 2007, she finished No. 21 on the Futures Tour money list and reached the finals of the LPGA Tour Qualifying tournament. Welch is the second former WSU player to compete on Big Break. Tasha Browner competed on Big Break III.
