Best wishes to Bonderman

This morning’s update on XM Radio’s MLB Home Plate 175 reminded me that Pasco native Jeremy Bonderman is having season-ending surgery today in Dallas for thoracic outlet syndrome.

He can ask Detroit Tigers teammate Kenny Rogers for advice. Rogers reportedly has had TOS procedures performed on both arms. It is not unusual for the surgery to include removing a rib. In this case, it likely would involve the first rib on Bonderman's right side.

This is a serious circulatory condition that surgery now can remedy. J. R. Richard, who struck out 313 for the Houston Astros in 1979, suffered a career-ending stroke in 1980 as a result of what has been attributed to TOS.

Richard complained about “a heavy arm” before his stroke.

As you can see from the story on MLB.com, Bonderman also complained about “a heavy arm.”
