Filing week "day two" highlights

It’s hard to keep up with all the comings and goings here during filing week, so here’s another news and notes roundup.

— Republican Rick Bart may be hard pressed in his bid to unseat Democratic U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen this fall but he’s going to give 5th Legislative District challenger Jon Viebrock a run for his money in the race for the best candidate e-mail address. You can reach Bart at theoriginalpossee@live.com and Viebrock at worldsgreateststeelheader@Yahoo.com.

— Republican William Chovil his filed to run against Rep. Jeannie Darneille, D-Tacoma. It’s a rematch six years in the making as Darneille beat Chovil at the polls in 2002 with 69 percent of the vote.

— Retiring state Rep. Lynn Schindler, R-Spokane, just issued a press release announcing she’s endorsing Matt Shea’s candidacy to replace her. Democrat Timothy Hattenburg and Republicans Shea, Ray Deonier and Diana Wilhite have all set up campaigns to run for the open seat.

— The Secretary of State’s Dave Ammons issued a notice this morning that official agency style will be to refer to the top two primary as the Top 2 Primary. But after 37 years in the news business Dave might have guessed we’d go our own way.

And after gathering input from reporters here the Associated Press has determined that, until the novelty wears off, the primary will be referred to the “top two” primary with quote marks on first reference and without on second reference.

So there.
