We’re rounding up campaign news from several legislative districts this morning so bear with us.
In the 23rd District Poulsbo Republican Larry Cooney has enlisted to run against Rep. Sherry Appleton, D-Silverdale. Cooney is the executive director of Bread of Life Mission, a Christian organization that provides services to homeless men.
Appleton is seeking her third term and through April 30 had raised close to $18,000 for her campaign.
In the 24th District The Daily World of Aberdeen is reporting that Montesano Republican Robert Dutton, who previously announced plans to challenge Rep. Kevin Van De Wege, D-Sequim, has changed his mind and now will take on Rep. Lynn Kessler, D-Hoquiam. You can find their story here.
Port Angeles Republican Thomas Thomas already was running against Van De Wege.
And, finally, there’s a rematch brewing in the 35th District where Belfair Republican Marco Brown is taking on Rep. Kathy Haigh, D-Shelton, again. He ran in 2006 but got just 39 percent of the vote. Bremerton Republican Bradley Gehring also is running for the seat.
Haigh had raised about $11,000 for her campaign through April 30.
UPDATE: I forgot to mention that state Rep. Joe Schmick, R-Colfax, sent out a press release Friday indicating he's running for re-election. Again, it's generally more newsworthy, or even just newsworthy, when incumbents announce they're not running. But there you go.
