A couple new challengers have emerged for seats in the state House of Representatives but I can’t find much on either. So we’ll wrap the news into this one post.
In the 42nd District Bellingham Democrat Mark Jay Flanders has enlisted to run against Rep. Doug Ericksen, R-Ferndale. I suspect it’s the same Mark Jay Flanders who started a blog on Barack Obama’s website in March, 2007, and then didn’t post there for 10 months and then hasn’t posted since.
The Whatcom County district has elected both Republicans and Democrats to the Legislature. In fact, it’s been represented in Olympia by at least one Democrat and at least one Republican to the Legislature since 1986, save for a few weeks in late 1998 and early 1999. Ericksen was elected in 1998 and has been re-elected by comfortable if not runaway margins since.
In the 49th District Vancouver Republican John Nyberg has jumped into the race for an open seat being vacated by Rep. Bill Fromhold, D-Vancouver. But Nyberg is mini-reporting, meaning he won’t raise and spend much money on the race.
His candidate registration form lists no campaign officers and no campaign e-mail address.
Democrat Jim Jacks also is running for the seat in the traditionally Democratic district. No Republican not named Don Carlson has been elected there since 1972.
