UPDATE: April fundraising standouts

Here’s our monthly rundown of the top fundraisers for legislative and statewide office campaigns during the month of April, minus the tallies for the governor’s race that we reported on earlier. Monthly summary reports were due Saturday. I’ll add to this list if there are any notable stragglers.

— Republican Attorney General Rob McKenna raised almost $91,000 last month to bring his total to almost $814,000. Democrat John Ladenburg raised almost $44,000 to bring his campaign total to almost $149,000.

— Shelly Short raised over $25,000 last month in her bid to replace retiring Rep. Bob Sump, R-Republic. She’s raised over $31,000 now. Three other Republicans also are seeking the seat.

— Superintendent of Public Instruction Terry Bergeson raised almost $18,000 last month to bring her campaign total to over $79,000 and challenger Rich Semler raised almost $21,000 to push his total over $60,000.

— Sen. Dan Swecker, a Rochester Republican facing challengers from both major parties, raised over $17,000 last month and he’d raised a total of near $45,000 as of April 30.

— In his Democratic bid to unseat Sen. Don Benton, R-Vancouver, Martin Hash has raised almost $52,000. And he personally contributed or loaned his campaign almost the entire amount.

— Mercer Island Rep. Fred Jarrett raised almost $21,000 for his Democratic campaign for the 41st District’s open Senate seat.

— In what could be a big money race for public lands commissioner, Republican incumbent Doug Sutherland raised almost $39,000 last month to bring his campaign total to almost $213,000. But Democratic challenger Peter Goldmark raised more than $73,000 to bring his total to over $290,000.

— Rep. Gary Alexander, R-Olympia, raised over $17,000 for his campaign last month to bring his total to almost $72,000.

— Republican Melvin Lindauer reported raising over $27,000 in his bid to unseat Rep. Don Barlow, D-Spokane. That pushes his campaign total to over $43,000.

5/19 UPDATE: This update is so late that I doubt many will even see it. Benton filed his monthly C-4 over the weekend and it shows he raised more than $27,000 in April, pushing his campaign total to over $136,000 as of April 30. He had more than $105,000 cash on hand.
